One Day Introductory Fly Fishing Schools

in fly fishing. Small group, private location.

Krieger, often referred to students as “engineers or poets,” according to
their method
of learning. Fly
fishing combines an intellectual understanding of how the equipment works
with a
sensory perception of how it feels to cast a line with a rod.
This is why fly fishing is
best taught through a combination of classroom
sessions (the engineer’s component) and
casting sessions (the poet’s
component). Our new small group
basic schools do just that.
We enjoy a private location on the banks of the Bow a short drive from
schools are taught with the
McLennans' proven method, which has helped thousands of
fly fishers over the
past two decades. The
classroom sessions are held in a rustic cabin
and the
outdoor sessions are conducted both on dry land and in the river.

One Day Basic Fly Fishing School
This school takes place in southwest Calgary and includes both classroom sessions, dry-land casting,
and on-the-water instruction on the nearby Elbow or Bow River.
Topics covered include Tackle Selection, Trout Food, Knots, Connecting, Reading Water, Casting,
and understanding the basics of dry fly, nymph, and streamer fishing.
What's included: tackle (not including waders), all instruction
What's not included: Alberta fishing license, lunch, waders
Some shallow wading in slow water is normally required.

Next Step
A great course for
novice fly fishers who’ve had some instruction or have done a small
amount of
fly fishing. It’s also a perfect
companion course to our popular
Progressive
This is a one-day
school, held on the
take “the
next step,” which is putting the principles into practice on the water. Topics
covered include dry, streamer, and nymph fishing methods, casting
review, reading water,
wading safety.
