Photography

Jim and Lynda McLennan are avid photographers.  Their work has illustrated Jim’s books and magazine stories for over 20 years, and has been used to support other authors’ stories.  On more than 25 occasions their photographs have been used on the covers of outdoor magazines including Outdoor Canada, B.C. Outdoors, Fishing World, Fly Fishing, Alberta Fishing Guide and others.  They have had photo-essays published in a number of magazines, including four in the prestigious Gray’s Sporting Journal.  Until recently their prime focus (sorry!) has been on the outdoors, but recently Lynda has expanded her photography to other topics, including dance, weddings, family portraits, web and brochure photos.

Their photographs may be purchased as signed prints (framed or unframed), or for publication. Send an email for more information.

Photography Instruction

Palmer Ranch Fly Fishing/Photography Retreat
with Jim McLennan

June 27, 28, 29, 2008, 2008

Spend a weekend of fly fishing and photography at the Palmer Ranch.  Located near Waterton National Park, the Palmer Ranch is bisected by the Waterton River, and is home to a series of small, spring-fed ponds made famous in many fly fishing television shows.  Known for their large and finicky trout, the ponds provide some of the best stillwater sight fishing in the West.  Upon registering, students will be invited to submit a favourite digital photograph, which will be viewed and discussed on Saturday night.

Itinerary:
Friday evening:  meet and greet one another and view a presentation on outdoor photography (attendance optional)
Saturday:  fly fishing and photography instruction on the ponds and the Waterton River.
Saturday evening:  view and critique photographs submitted by students (attendance optional)
Sunday:  fly fishing and photography on the ponds and Waterton River.

Fishing instruction will center on casting improvement, fly selection, spotting fish and sight-fishing on the ponds.  Will also include streamer, dry fly and nymph techniques applicable on moving water.
Photography instruction will center on understanding and using the components of a good photograph: subject, composition, and light.
