Jim & Lynda McLennan Photo - Dave Jensen
A
long-time fly fisher and outdoor writer, Jim McLennan was recently named
an Editor-At-Large for Fly Fisherman magazine. Jim was one of
the first guides on Alberta's legendary Bow River, working the river from
1976-1982. During that time Jim introduced
many famous fly fishers to the wonders of the Bow including Leigh Perkins, Lefty Kreh, A.J. McClane, Ernest
Schwiebert, and Charles Waterman. Jim's writing and photography appears frequently in major outdoor magazines, including Fly Fisherman, Northwest Fly Fishing, The Canadian Fly Fisher, and Gray's Sporting Journal. He hosted two seasons of the television series Iron Blue Fly Fishing, broadcast on the Outdoor Life Network, and is a frequent speaker at events sponsored by fly fishing clubs and conservation organizations. Along with the fly-fishing arts, Jim's other passions are hunting upland birds, and playing music. He lives with his wife, Lynda and three bird dogs in Okotoks, Alberta, where he splits time between fishing, hunting, and writing.
Lynda McLennan has fly-fished in her home province of Alberta since 1976 and has taught fly fishing since 1985. Though her home waters are in southern Alberta, she has fished many places in Western Canada and the U.S. and has twice sampled the trout streams of New Zealand. A natural teacher, Lynda credits much of her passion for fly fishing to the people who have taught her, including Joan Wulff, Lefty Kreh, Mel Krieger, Ernest Schwiebert, and her husband Jim. In addition to teaching her own fly fishing schools, she has also taught fly fishing schools for the City of Calgary’s Outdoor Pursuits program. She is past president/director of Casting for Life, (a fly fishing retreat for women recovering from breast cancer) teaching and organizing programs for 9 years. Lynda is a skilled photographer whose work appears in Jim McLennan’s books and slide presentations, and in sporting magazines including Fly Fisherman, Gray’s Sporting Journal, The Canadian Fly Fisher and Fly Fusion. Outside of the fly-fishing world, she has a passion for photographing dance, and has worked with Corps Bara Dance Theatre in Calgary, the Urban Dance Company at the University of Calgary and The Alberta Dance Academy in Okotoks, Alberta.
